4 Things You Should Know About Pomeranians

Small, energetic, and boisterous, Pomeranians are the quintessential toy dog breed. It’s no wonder that they’ve been one of the most popular dog breeds for over a hundred years. These lovable pups brighten up every home that they enter, but there are some things you should know before adopting a Pomeranian puppy.

They’re extremely friendly

While Pomeranians have an independent streak, they’re nevertheless extremely outgoing dogs. They love socializing with people and animals, even if another dog is twice their size. Older Pomeranians also make great lap dogs that will surely keep you warm on cold winter days.

Pomeranians love barking

Don’t let their size fool you; Pomeranians can make a lot of noise. They’re great alarm dogs, so you’ll never have to worry about someone sneaking up onto your property, but you will have to deal with quite a lot of barking. Behavioral training early on may help to limit their excessive barking.

They need regular exercise

Pomeranians have a lot of energy; as such, they need a lot of exercise. You should walk them at least once a day to keep them fit, although twice a day is better. You can also try teaching them tricks, as they’re an extremely intelligent breed that are very easy to train.

And regular grooming

That long, fluffy coat may be cute, but it must be properly managed or else you may be dealing with matted and dirty fur. Give them a good brushing once a day to keep their coat under control, and then take them to a groomer to get their fur properly trimmed.
