Pomeranians may be small, but they have a large amount of energy. Releasing this energy throughout the day is essential for good physical health, behavioral health, and for socialization. But just how much exercise should you give your Pomeranian?
Walk them for 20-30 minutes, twice per day
A 20- or 30-minute walk at least twice a day is a good routine to get into. But remember that your Pomeranian has short legs, and what will feel like a quick pace to him, will feel very slow to you. Instead, walk at his pace, and never go running with your Pomeranian. Then, after each 20- or 30-minute walk, make sure they get fresh water and a treat.
Reach a compromise about the time of day
If you can, exercise your Pomeranian when they are eager to go out. Some dogs aren’t morning animals, and some can’t wait to get outside first thing. However, this isn’t possible for some people who have to work throughout the day. As such, you will probably have to reach a compromise with your dog and find a time that suits you both.
Don’t forget about your yard!
Finally, if you have a yard, then be sure to take your Pomeranian out there to play, too. Dogs love to please, and your Pomeranian will love playing games like fetch or tug-of-war with you. Plus, this is also a wonderful way to deepen your bond with your Pom.
